If a production of Peter Shaffer's “Amadeus” is any good, your head briefly leaves the play somewhere in the second act. And you start to wonder who in your past might have intentionally sabotaged your career. Friday, March 8, Shamblin Theater hosted the opening night for Blackbird Theater's production of Amadeus. Based on a play by Peter Shaffer (or wait—was it Anthony?), Amadeus focused on what everyone concurred was a pretty banal theme: the war between cagy, politic, shucking-and-jiving mediocrity, and God-given genius. Whilst my father prayed earnestly to God to protect commerce, I would offer up secretly the proudest prayer a boy could think of. He established a career in the US with classics like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Amadeus, er … Valmont But pretty much everything else is an invention on the part of the original play by Peter Shaffer. Also in 2001, he was Ebenezer Scrooge in the seasonal “A Christmas Carol” at NYC's Madison Square Garden. And in 1980, he was Broadway's first Mozart in Peter Shaffer's “Amadeus”. Amadeus is a is a stage play written in 1979 by Peter Shaffer, loosely based on the lives of the composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.
